I went to the contro panel>passwords and I don't have a "change password" dialog box that is required in order to get rid of the windows 98 logon prompt box. How did that disappear? And how can I get it back? Is there another way to get rid of the windows password box without the change password dialog box?

It sounds like you may not be logged into Windows properly.

Click on Start and then when the Start menu appears, do you see an entry for "Log Off"? Does it say "Log Off ..." and then a username next to it or does it just say "Log Off"?

One way or the other try this, click on Start>Find>Files and search for *.pwl

Delete all of the .pwl files it finds and then restart Windows. When your prompted at startup, key in a UserName and leave the Password box blank. Now be sure to click on OK.

Let us know what happens.
