I suppose I should ask, since you did mention it: Do you want Windows in French or did you need assistance with changing the language?

I downloaded and installed the driver you indicated but each time at the end it said installation failed. The driver remains with a yellow exclamation sign when i open the control panel, system, "Gestionnaire de peripherique" (excuse me, I have always worked with french operating systems so most the computer vocabulary I have is in french. what could be blocking the driving from being installed?
Thanks very much for your patience and goodwill to help.

in fact I have all the drivers that I copied from a folder called "swsetup" in drive C. The other drivers installed without much problem but only the sound driver refuses.

The drivers on the hard drive could have been the wrong ones. Have you tried to install the ones off the HP website?

Thanks very much Triple6 and thanks to all of you who cared to help. I finally went to http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...roduct=1124211and downloaded the latest update proposed for audio drivers "sp30399" and it solved the problem. The driver is Conexant CX20468-31 AC97. I am most grateful to all of you.
