We used to have Norton Anti-virus, but after it last expired we decided to go with another program. Now it is messing with all sorts of things...I get pop-up boxes all of the time that say that something or other wants to install Adobe Flash Player and if you select "OK" then it says that Norton was unable to scan because it is missing components. And if you elect to not install the Adobe Flash, then you can't continue. But when we try to delete the Norton, it won't delete, giving me the error "Cannot delete NAVSHEXT.DLL Access denied".

Is there any way to delete Norton?

One thing Symantec did right was to provide a removal tool to remove Norton's stubborn roots.

    1. Make sure all the components have been uninstalled under add/remove programs

    2. Click HERE and follow the series of instructions to download the removal tool.

Run the removal tool, and you should be in good shape.

Just make sure you have some replacement to guard against viruses and spyware.

There seems to be an issue with that...we have an older version on the computer (that we later upgraded) that there doesn't seem to be a removal tool for (The 2002 version, which we later upgraded)...AND we are also running PC Anywhere, which my husband needs for work, The removal tool said that we had to remove both of those before removing the most recent Norton.

I swear, Symantec is evil! It should be illegal for a program to stay so rooted to your computer...I guess they learned that trick from the viruses they defend against!
