On our PC there are 3 accounts.

The second account [my son's] has in the notification tray, the time and then underneath the time is the day of the week.

Now, I can't find anywhere to enable/disable this in the date/time options window.

One other thing...if I go to start menu>properties>choose classic start menu, then according to the pic there should be a blue margin on the side of the start menu saying: Windows XP. Well in the second account this is the case, but in my own account this blue margin isn't present.

While I'm aware these are not extreme issues....it's just I like to know what is going on with things.

It's just a curiosity thing.....I just thought someone out there could explain this to me.

You're certainly right...nothing major. I also don't have an answer for you but I do have a little advice. You could google your issue and see if it brings back an answer, but all in all, I don't think it's even worth the time.

    Hi ilovedonna

And remember the motto here... "There's no such thing as a stupid question,
but they're the easiest to answer!"
So please don't feel like you are wasting anyone's time with a valid question ;)

I use the Windows Classic Start Menu and the Windows XP Classic Theme and in the System tray I have the Time and day of the week. I also have the blue band with Windows XP Home Edition running alongside my Start Menu.

If I understand correctly, the Time and Date are missing from one of the User Accounts?
    In that User Account:
Right click the Taskbar > Properties and place a check in: Show Clock does that return it for you?

Are both User Accounts using the same Windows XP theme?

Thank you EAFiedler for your kind words :) after what the previous member wrote....

I am the main admin of our family computer and am always probing into things and I noticed my son's account has the time/dayofweek in his notification tray, also his icons are bigger although the small icon option has been selected in the start menu properties.

In his account, also, he has the blue margin if you select classic start menu.

Now in my account I can see the picture of the blue margin in the Taskbar and Start Menu properties window where you can select the classic or XP start menu options, but if I choose the classic menu all I get is a simple start menu with no margin, just a white background with icons on the left and a list of things.

I do have the time showing in my notification tray, but I can't find anywhere, the option to also include the day of the week as well as the time?

Well, news to hand is that I just went into my son's account and checked what theme was in use...it said "Modified Theme"....I selected XP Theme and the dayoftheweek disappeared and the notification tray now resembles my own..... I don't know what the 'modified theme' was or where it came from as my son doesn't fiddle with that kind of thing.

the day of the week will only show if the task bar (the blue bar at the bottom) is big enough for it

right click the task bar and make sure lock toolbar is NOT ticked, if it is click on it to untick it, then with the mouse left click the top of the toolbar and drag it upwards slightly until it gets bigger, then the date & time both appear

Thanks dvk01 for your help... (y)

I investigated your advice and saw that if you had a huge taskbar then the time/dayofweek/date becomes visible. I couldn't get the dayofweek/time to show on their own though. It must have had something to do with his large icons in the taskbar, even though small icons was selected in the properties box.

I discovered my son's account was using a modified theme...so when I returned it to the XP theme the dayofweek disappeared. The modified theme option also disappeared from the pull-down menu.

I give up with themes & display issues with XP as they are so customizeable that any advice beyond the absolute basic is a waste of time

There are numerous themes available and millions of programs that allow you to fiddle with the themes.

I just can't be bothered to play with them and leave it as standard except changing my desktop picture from time to time, but that is me and many people get lot's of enjoyment from playing with themes

I am sure that if you do a google search and play with some of the theme programs you will be able to display what you want with a small task bar, There are quite a few clock replacements that do this as well

Thanks dvk01...I didn't want to customise my desktop, I just wondered why my son's, who doesn't tweak his account, had the day of week showing with the time. It turned out he had a modified theme going and since I changed it to XP theme the day of week disappeared just as mysteriously as it appeared. That was the only change I could notice, oh...excepting that his larger icons became small again.
