I have a Gateway Notebook.
It's almost 1 year old.

I have 4 USB Ports. Up until yesterday they all worked.
I tried to install ATI Wonder TV Tuner Card.

It didn't recognize the USB Port. I've had a logitech wireless mouse plugged in
for several months. Now it doesn't recognize it.

I tried plugging it into all the ports and the notebook acts like nothing was
plugged in.

Any suggestions???

It sounds like you may have overloaded the circuit and taken out the surface mounted fuses that protect the USB ports. Do the ports look normal in Device Manager?

And nothing happens whenever you plug something in?

Let's try my USB clean-up, though I'm not sure this will have an effect. It probably can't hurt anything any more than it already is.

Create a file with NOTEPAD containing the following lines and save it as FIX.REG
-------------------------- cut here --------------------------------
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]

"DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES"="1"
-------------------------- cut here --------------------------------

Double click on FIX.REG and say yes to the Merge Into Registry question.

Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager.
View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Disk Drives that you know are not present.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.

You, are a miracle worker. I followed your directions and now have working USB ports.
It takes a minute for the notebook to acknowledge there is something plugged in, but it does, after time.

I have another question now.. I'm trying to use ATI Wonder, TV tuner. I finally was able to load the software and just when I thought it was going to work, I get an error message stating the program couldn't start due to low bandwidth. What can I do about that?

How can I find out if my USB ports are 1.1 or 2.0?

Thank you so much, your help is GREATLY appreciated!!!!
