I have Win 7 on its own hdd on a dual boot XP / Win7 system.

The Win 7 version is Professional.

I have tried to install Office 2003 on it from the original cd. It takes about 20 minutes to start the setup programme and then gives the starting to install screen and then just sits there doing nothing (I haven't even had the option for which items to install). I left it for 8 hours overnight and nothing changed. I then tried for a second time today and exactly the same behaviour and after 2 hours I gave up.

I have installed other applications like Photoshop and Dreamweaver without issue.

Anyone got any bright ideas? Coz I am

What version of Office 2003 is this and where did you get it?

Professional and I bought it about 5/6 years ago shrink wrapped so it is genuine and I have a genuine serial number.

How much empty disk space it there on the hard drive that Windows 7 is installed on?

How much RAM to you have on this machine?

Thanks for the suggestion but the cd is fine I have checked that out by uninstalling and then re-installing word on the XP partition.

So you are trying to install the same copy of Office 2003 on the Win 7 partition as is on the XP Partition? That may be your problem. Try uninstalling it from the XP Partition then installing it on the Win 7 Partition.

Well I can't believe it after 11 hours it finally completed installation.

Anything else seems to install straight away. Must be JOOTT.

Marked as solved as the problem is fixed but the undelying cause not found.
