Solved: On the "my computer" list, I double-click on disks and get "search" instead of "open"

I double-click and get "search" instead of "open"--only when I click a disk, like Hard Drive C: or Floppy A: or CD F: and so on.

It didn't used to do this, so I must've inadvertently changed some setting somewhere, but darned if I can find it now.

    Any ideas?

Download this script and run it. It will restore the registry entries.

You hot ****, you! Sigh. Once I was a programmer (COBOL/DB2/JCL). I remember when I could razzle dazzle people with a customized little script.

Anyway, that worked. You have any idea how the registry got changed in that specific way in the first place?

No idea. But it seems to happen a lot, so if you get any clues, I'd appreciate the info.

Just a guess, but since you were involved in the thread about registry cleaners, I would start there.

Thanks. It's probably from some minor "oops" I'll never figure out unless I do it again and notice what I did.

So, you don't run any registry cleaning apps?

Not yet. I've been reading up on it. Don't wanna screw anything up.

You have some thoughts on that?

The registry is like a deep, dark mystery to me!

thepcjanitor, just curious, but were you doing any thing with editing 'file types', before this problem happened?
