Windows XP. I installed MSOffice to verify something, then uninstalled it. Since doing this, the HTML links I've inserted in Open Office calc no longer work.

I get a red x windows error message saying: Window's cannot find 'http://blahblah'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file.....etc.

Apparently, MSOffice changes some setting preventing the links in Open Office calc from working. I need help re-establishing functionallity.

When did you do all of this?

would it be worth trying a System Restore?

Great suggestion, though I'm reluctant to do a restore. I re-installed MSOffice this morning, which caused the problem. Howsosomeever, I also downloaded some MSFlightSimulator aircraft over the past week from FSDome.com and picked up some worms which I also cleaned completely this morning. (My anti-software did a good job identifying and stopping any damage...especially since the problems were sitting in zip files I hadn't installed yet.) If I don't find an answer myself or from someone else, I may have to resolve the issue by doing a restore to about a week ago. I certainly don't want to put the zip files back on my computer.

I might make a suggestion that since you picked up a worm which you think has been removed that you run Hijack This and post the results and maybe ask a moderator to move this to the security forum

I am hesitant to tell new folks much when they indicate they are advanced as dont want to offend. I assume you know that system restore will not take care of an infection so if it were me i would want to rule that out as a possibility which Hijack this will indicate.

let me know if you need a link if you want to do that

I'm fairly certain I'm clean as the log file indicates to me...but as I consider myself an advanced user....I'm no programmer geek either.

For instance...I'm new here...so I don't know how to get a moderator to move this to the security forum...and I'm still not really sure it should go there. See, I can show weakness.

I askd one to take a peek. Try to wait a bit and see if she shows up. there are only so many log experts and they do monitor that here so people dont get bad advice. so sometimes it takes a while for one to show up

BTW, I took care of the basics, uninstalling Open Office, cleaning up after, and reinstalling the software etc. etc. My links still won't work. I deleted a couple and reset them in the cells as hyperlinks...no joy kilroy.

Now boot to safe mode, close all browser windows, open cwshredder.exe then click Fix and let it run.

Boot back to windows normally and go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan
    • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
    • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
    • Enter your Country
    • Enter your State/Province
    • Enter your e-mail address and click send
    • Select either Home User or Company
    • Click the big Scan Now button
    • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
    • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
    • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
    • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report

Come back here and post a new HijackThis log along with the log from Panda scan.

Dc3.zip was a file I had trouble with earlier. This file was an aircraft I downloaded from FSDome which AVG alerted that it was infected with a worm. It was sitting on my desktop in a zip file. I never installed it thankfully, and sent it to the recycle bin to erase. I put it in the recycle bin to erase with Eraser (and have now done so). Took about 15 minutes to erase it.

Rescan with HijackThis, close all browser windows except HijackThis, put a check mark beside these entries and click fix checked.

I found and deleted the first and third. I did not find the second, however, I did delete the RO start page with (Sub_CLCID).

This did not fix the problem.

The exact error message appears in a dialogue box with a red X and says: "Windows cannot find 'http://www.snapfiles.com'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To Search for a file, click the Start Button, and then click Search."

If I convert the calc file from .xls to .html the links work perfectly. It is only in the .xls format in Open Office Calc that the error occurs. Before I installed MSOffice, then uninstalled it, the links worked perfectly. I could check the links while still in calc. Now I cannot.

One of the files I use in calc where the issue occurs is published to my little personal website. You can see the simple formatting at http://members.cox.net/bearbottoms1 The links from calc work fine on the website and in the calc html file I upload. The html file I upload is a conversion of the calc .xls file.
