Everytime I log into outlook (2003) these days it is always trying to send emails even though there is nothing in my outbox. Because of this I haven't been able to send any mail because when I do it trys to send the phantom emails first.

Has anyone got any ideas how I can purge the sending of non-existant emails?

    Cheers

    Three things you can check

    1) See if you have any messages stuck in your Outbox. If you have more than one e-mail account, check each Outbox.

    2) See if you have Outlook configured to automatically send receive or read receipts for any incoming messages that request them.

    3) Are you running an anti-virus program with up to date definitions? Some virus or a piece of malware may be trying to hijack Outlook to send its own messages.

    Thanks for the reply

    1) I have two accounts both run off the same folders and have an empty outbox

    2) It is set at ask me to send read receipts, usually I just click ok.

    3) I just installed McAfee the other week so I would hope it was up to date but I have in the past recieved some mail failures that I haven't sent.

It was option 2) wasn't it, lol

I just used MDBVU32 and cleared 47 receipts and it seems to have cleared the problem.

Thanks for putting me in the right direction, I've now selected never send a reciept in my outlook options.

    Cheers
