    XP Version 2000, SP2
    Outlook Express Version 6
    Outlook 200 SP2
    AVG free
    no firewall

Neither Outlook or Outlook express will send emails with attachments. Emails without attachments work fine.

Error message is "server timed out".

    Hi smelsco

    Is AVG E-mail scanning enabled?

First try adjusting your Server Timeout settings:

    In Outlook Express:
Tools > Accounts > Mail tab > (AccountName) > Properties
On the Advanced tab, adjust the Server Timeout settings to at least 2 minutes.
If you still receive the Timeout error, adjust the Server Timeout to 5 minutes.

If the Timeout error persists with the Server Timeout set to 5 minutes, try disabling AVG from checking outgoing emails.

Double click the AVG icon in the System Tray.
Right click the E-mail Scanner component,
Properties > Plugins tab > Configure button
    Uncheck: Check outgoing mail
OK, OK to save and close.

    Let us know what happens.

The user (this is not my machine) was orig. using Nortons with the email scanner. We removed nortons (not all the way with the nortons uninstaller, i'm going to do that next) since it wasn't working anyway. Tested the email and still nothing, then added AVG.

I will change the server timeout settings but this is running on a T1, it used to be instant, now it just sits and stares at me.
