    hey guys....

I notice that everytime I reply to an email using OE 6, it always sends from my default email. I was wondering if there is a setting that I could do so it would reply from same address the message was sent to. It used to do that, but now I don't understand why the settings had suddenly changed.

    Help please!

    Your post confuses me?

When you "reply" to a message, it has to be from your PC, (and therefore from your email address) you can not (and should not) be "spoofing" your address to make it appear to be the same as the intended recipient.

Or I have completely misunderstood the question (also quite likely) :)

i'm sorry, i forgot to mention that i have more than one account in my OE--a cox.net email, and a gmail. I want to know if there's a setting in the program somewhere that lets me reply with the same email account that the message was sent to instead of reply with the default email alone.

i hope that was clear enough. sorry for the misunderstanding! :)

As I do not use OE I will let someone else respond to that, but it should be as easy as selecting the "from" or "account" dropdown address selection based on other email programs I have used.

thanks berone for the reply, but that is not what i need.

i need to know if there's a OE settings that will let me reply to the message from the same email account that the message was sent to instead of manually picking it from the 'from' drop down menu, or having my default email be used everytime I reply. currently, every email i send is from my default email account. it used to let me reply automatically from the same email address that the message was sent to, but now the settings have been changed and I don't know how to fix it.

can someone please else help me?

    thanks

As kiwiguy suggested in #4, you should be able to select the account you want in the "From" dropdown box in the reply window.

    Guys, read the question.

He wants to know how he can have it happen AUTOMATICALLY, not have it so that he has to look at the address it was sent to (which are his) and then select that account manually when replying.

He just wants to know if for example he has [email protected] and [email protected] as his two e-mail addresses and [email protected] is his default e-mail account, if he can have outlook use the [email protected] address to reply to messages that have come to him via that address rather than have outlook use the default of [email protected].

    Hopefully this clarifies the question

Sorry to be a nuisance but I don't really see how this problem has been solved, rather that it has gone away. :(

I have the same problem in OE6. However, when I reply to an email sent to my default (home) address, the reply always places my NON-default (work) email address into the From: box, so that of course I have to change it manually using the drop-down facility.

This is really more than a minor irritation as initially I didn't notice, blithely sending off replies to people, unwittingly using my non-default, work address, which they would then reply to equally unaware: end result - personal emails sent to my work address as well as home.

It seems common sense to expect the Reply button to select the appropriate email address. I have changed all the settings and options I have been able to find that might affect it, to no avail.

I await some enlightenment from the ether. ;)

I am having the EXACT same problem as Forbearance. When I reply to or forward emails that were sent to my home address (default) the "From" address is my work address. I have to manually change it every time. Forbearance, have you been able to resolve this?

Sorry pcather, but the only solution I have found is to get rid of one email account! I hope you have better luck than me.

Definitely not solved. When clicking Reply it is using the first email address alphabetically rather than the default. That's a bug in my opinion. If there was an option to 'reply from address it was sent to' that would be a great feature as well.

Will try this in the new Live Mail Desktop beta and log a bug report if it behaves the same.

Found an answer on a newsgroup for one scenario.

OE's behaviour is to reply using the connection that the mail was received on. If you *only* use an address for sending, not receiving, then edit that account and untick 'use this account when receiving'.

For my situation I had a freeserve account (1), a plusnet account (2), another address that used to redirect to 1 but now redirects to 2 (3), and a final address that is only for sending as (4) (when people reply to it it goes to someone else. Don't ask).

Because address 4 was the first in the alphabet, and it was attached to account 2, it was being used by default when replying. Removing the tick box means that address 3 is the only one used.

Hope that helps explain why -- see this chap's excellent article for proper instructions
