Hi all at Techguy, I hope someone can help me!!!

My outlook express has changed to Microsoft outlook! This has also caused me problems with Word and Excel.
I cannot open any ‘e’ mails in outlook express as it says there is an error. I can go back to a restore point fro a few days ago and all is fine, a day later it changes again to Microsoft outlook and the same problems occur.

When I try and open a word or excel document it says preparing to install!!

I can not open attachments in my outlook also!!

I have AVG as my Anti virus protectiion
I run SpyBot on a daily basis
    I run Ad-Aware on a weekly basis

    Regards

    Brian

Have you tried setting OE as the default via Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs>Set Program Access and Defaults?

    Hi Brikelly

In: Control Panel > Internet Options > Programs tab
In the E-mail: field, click the drop down arrow and select another e-mail client.
    Click: Apply

Click the drop down arrow for the E-mail: field again, this time, select Outlook Express.
Apply, OK to save and close.

Test to see if you can open your messages in Outlook Express.

Let us know if that makes a difference or not.

Are the problem messages all in the Inbox?

Can you create a new folder in Outlook Express and copy a few of the messages, in the Inbox, into the new folder?
If so, can you open and reply to them there?

Can you post the exact error you are receiving for Outlook Express?

Are the problems with Word and Excel still occurring?

If i go to start and open Excel or Word from the main programme list they open fine, however if i try to open a particular word or excel file from my documents, desktop or an 'e' mail it fails and asks me to reload microsoft office.

    Thanks

If i try to open an 'e' mail the following comes up in a blue box with a yellow warning triangle!
The address book failed to load. Outlook Express is incorrectly configured, please re-install.
when i press ok, the following message then appears, in a blue box with a yellow warning triange:-
There was an error opening this message.
    an error has occured.
The second message also occurs if i try to create an 'e' mail.

    regards

If you can open the Address Book in Outlook Express,
click: Help > About Address Book
this will give you the directory where your Windows Address Book (wab file) is located.

If you cannot open the Address Book, open Windows Explorer and navigate to this directory:
    C:\Documents and Settings\UserAccount\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book

You should see at least two files, they will have the UserAccount as the file name, one will have the extension .wab the other, the extension .wa~

Close Outlook Express and Move the UserAccount.wab file to the desktop.
Rename the extension of the UserAccount.wa~ file to: UserAccount.wab

Start Outlook Express, attempt to open the Address Book.
Then attempt to open a message.

    Let us know what happens.
