I had a hard drive problem on my laptop and had Windows XP Professional installed, and set up my MSN hotmail account in Outlook Express, using my long- established password for the account. But now, when I attempt to access my emails, I keep getting the login box popping up, with the error code 0x800CCC32, "invalid login". I tried to set up a new Identity, but that hasn't helped - the same error code keeps coming up

    Hi waltfri

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Have you logged into your Hotmail account on the web?

If not, try that, then try accessing Hotmail through Outlook Express.

    Let us know what happens.

I can (and do) log into my MSN hotmail acount on the web - no problem. But in Outlook Express that confounded login box keeps popping up, even though I am using the same password as when I login on the web .

How long have you had the Hotmail account and how long had you been accessing Hotmail through Outlook Express?

I had been accessing the account for at least 8 years through Outlook Express. problem arose after i had a hard drive problem, and had windows XP Pro installed, and then tried to migrate the files from the old Outlook Express into the new Outlook express on XP Pro. Files migrated OK, and another email account that I have works fine. The problem is with the MSN Hotmail - or maybe with my copy of Outlook Express.

What operating system were you using before Windows XP Professional was installed?
Are you also using Internet Explorer 7?

Is this a free Hotmail account?

Before I was using Windows XP Media.

I use Internet Explore sometimes, but mainly Mozilla.
I have a paid Windows Live Hotmail account, which I can access with no difficulty through the web

Still unsure if you have Internet Explorer version 7, installed.

If so, see if this applies:

Is there more to that error message, like the following?
