If you are on a business or corporate computer,it is good practice
to periodically change the password, and it may actually be controlled
by group policy on the domain server.
If it is just a home computer you are having problems with, you can go to
start/control panel/administrative tools and open computer management.
    Expand local users and groups.
    Click users.
    Double click your user name.
    Select password never expires.
    Click apply/ok.
You may need to be logged in as administrator to do this.

I can follow the steps all the way up to "computer management", I do not have anything like local users or groups?

Are you using Vista Home Basic or Premium ? In XP Home, there is no 'local users and groups' inside computer management.
