I have a PC and a laptop, both Win 7 Pro 64bit. I can create homegroup from both PC and laptop and can be successfully connected, and the laptop can always access to the PC shared libraries, regardless of whether the PC or laptop creates the homegroup, HOWEVER, the PC always cannot access to the laptop's shared libraries. :(

The printer is connected to the PC through USB, and the laptop can used the printer through homegroup to print, regardless whether PC or laptop creates the homegroup.

I used kaspersky internet security 2010 for both laptop and PC, and with Windows firewall enabled. I tried to disable Windows firewall on both PC and laptop, then try to access the laptop shared libraries but to no success.

I have read some threads, but not so similar to my issue.

PLEASE HELP ME in this issue!! :)

I tried ping to the laptop's IP address or name, but it comes with the following:

    Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]

    C:\Users\user>ping 192.168.1.69

Failure to ping is almost always a firewall blocking the request.

How do I solve this firewall issue, if it is the problem? I don't really know what to do in the firewall settings. Both Windows Firewall and Kaspersky Firewall are enabled.

The windows and kaspersky firewall settings are the same in the laptop and desktop, and the laptop still can access the PC shared libraries regardless whether the PC or the laptop who creates the homegroup.

When I tried to Ping to the laptop, the responds back was "Request timeout".

Is there any problem due to Master Browser?

One more thing to add on to my situation, my laptop connects to my modem/router wirelessly, but my PC is wired connected used a adaptor device called "HomePlug"; so instead of using LAN cables to transmit data, it uses the electrical cable to transmit data hence saving my house full of wires.

Hey JohnWill, thanks a lot for your advice!!

I double check with windows firewall settings for both PC and laptop, all settings are the same and file and printer sharing are enabled in the correct profile.

Then i went to check my kaspersky internet security 2010 firewall settings for both PC and laptop; under the Firewall settings -> Network (Tab), PC shows the network connection to the modem STATUS is "Local Network" and the laptop shows "Public Network", SO I CHANGED THE LAPTOP network connection from "Public Network" to "Local Network" AND IT WORKS!

NOW MY PC CAN SEE SHARED LIBRARIES FROM THE LAPTOP!

Great, glad it worked out. Sometimes I think girewalls cause more issues around here than they solve. :D
