Today I started my pc and it was very slow. Normaly it takes less than 5 minutes to start up and run all startup programs, today it took over 30 minutes.
I have a good pc and I really don't know what the problem is. I got good cooling and my pc is cool inside. I checked all the cables in my pc and they are all connected. I updated my videocard drivers to the latest version. I use avast as anti-virus so I don't think that I got any viruses. This also happened 2 months ago, I tought my gpu was broken so i bought it to a pc-engineer and he tested my gpu and it worked perfectly. While my gpu was gone I didn't use my pc for a week and when I got my gpu back, it all worked fine again. Please help me.

First try starting in Safe mode and see if that is any quicker.

Looking at the build number for your version of Windows 7 you do not have Service Pack 1 installed, is there any reason for that or have you forgotten to turn on Windows Update.

    Click Start.

In the search bar type msconfig and hit Enter.

    Click Startup(tab).

Take a screenshot(s) showing all items listed and attach the image(s) in your next post.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

We'll see if there's anything left that we can disable.

Updates should be left turned on to keep your system up to date.

You have not responded to the first part of my reply.

I cannot imagine that any program is going to delay the startup for 30 minutes.

To get a clear picture of what is running it would be better to see a log from HJT.

But, I still would like the OP to tell me if it runs OK in Safe mode.

Go to Start - Run - MSCONFIG - OK - Services tab.

Make sure that "Hide all Microsoft services" is NOT checked, and make sure that ALL entries in the list are checked, then click Apply.

    Go to Startup tab.

What are the names in the "Startup Item" column that are still checked?

    -----------------------------------------------------------

Go to Control Panel - Windows Update.

    Click "Change settings".

Select "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them", then click OK.

You REALLY need to have Windows Update activated so it can alert you to new important/recommended updates.

So safe mode makes it a bit faster but not a lot so I don't think that the problem is to many start up programs. I only got 10 startup programs enabled.
Im going to update windows but im not sure that it will fix the problem.

Click Start - Run, then type in

    %temp%

    and then click OK.

Click Start - Run, then type in

    c:\windows\temp

    and then click OK.

Once those 2 temp folders appear and you can view their contents, select and delete EVERYTHING that's inside them.

If a few files resist being deleted, that's normal behavior. Leave them alone and delete EVERYTHING else.

After you're done, restart the computer.

    -------------------------------------------------------

Start HiJackThis, but don't run a scan.

Click on the "Open The Misc Tools Section" button.

Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button.

Click on the "Save List" button.

    Save the "uninstall_list.txt" file somewhere.

    It'll then open in Notepad.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire file here.

As of post # 17 this thread is solved.

And I'll add that it was never intended to be a general discussion outlet on forum policy, which, as anybody and everybody should know, is best addressed by taking the proper and prescribed route, namely taking any such matter up via PM with administration and/or moderation.

I'll leave it open but I'm deleting all posts not relevant to the thread topic. Let's not have any more distractions.

    Thank you

As a last word in this thread on this matter in order to address the issue, we have said in the past that regular members could request a HijackThis log in order to see what's running as long as they don't use any functions of the tool or instruct users to fix anything with it. Of course, if they suspect malware in the log then they should report it for verification and to be be moved to the Virus & Other Malware Removal forum, if necessary.

If anyone has any further questions or concerns, please express them via private message. Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.
