Hi guys.
You know when a company says to you, "We never said that"; you wish you'd recorded the call.
Well I decided to make this a project.

I found some hardware in the internet for sale that enables me to connect to a recording device (One of my own choice).

I'm trying to find out if I can connect direct to my PC rather that some sort of Dictaphone.
I thought about using my mike input.

Has anyone done this or know if it is possible.

First question I'd have is regarding the legality of it.....pretty sure you have to inform the other party that this call is being recorded, don't you?

Correct, at least in the USA....it is AGAINST FEDERAL LAW in the USA in record ANYBODY w/o their consent...thats' why all tech support calls always start out.."this call may be recorded for training purposes.."

I would be weary about that info, not saying is wrong But I have been told by a US Marshal that they DO put restricttions on them...so just to be 100% sure I would be sure to make all parties aware of such recordings :)

Folks, I asked for this to be reopened as I finally found a way of recording direct to my PC from my phone line.
Phew, only took me about two years

Your correct about advising the other party about it being recorded. However, a lawyer friend of mine told me this is only if it to be used in a UK court of law as evidence. (He thinks, although I haven't substantiated this).

There is a product by Reteli that overcomes the problem of a voltage difference between a phone line and a PC. They also supply the software. This negates the need to use a separate recording device.

I haven't included the Ebay link to this as it will change over time.

Some will be thinking why would anyone want to record a telephone conversation.
Well, let me give you my scenario.

After a ruined holiday, I was advised by telephone, by a VERY good holiday company that I would be able to have a FREE holiday to replace my ruined holiday that had been ruined by them. As they had such a good reputation within the travel industry I felt a telephone call was OK. How wrong was I. This company denied any such call, despite me having proof from my phone company.
I did win in court after a long time, expense and stress. Hence the search for this setup.

I'll mark this as solved now. Just posting to help others who may need this protection. :D
