Just a newbie question, coz i have been on ages today and i carnt figure this out at all

I have an image opened in photoshop, i wish to add a second image to edit, merge and mess around with both the images together, But no matter how i try i dont seem able to do this I just know there has to be a way to manipulate 2 image files together as one image, but how? Is it something to do with layers? Should i learn this lesson first, coz i need to merge 2 images for my web site.

Better still can you point me to the correct tutorial to teach me this.

    thx...rob
