When I receive an email with picture attachments and open the first one - when I hit the arrow to move to the next it opens up pictures that look like they are from Explorer? How can I stop this from happening?

    Could you provide more details?

What OS? XP? Vista? What browser/version do you use?

Does "Express" in your title mean you are using Outlook Express?
If not OE, exactly, step-by-step, how do you access your email?

What do you mean by "opens up pictures that look like they are from
    Explorer?"
Internet Explorer? Windows Explorer? What pictures?
    Neither has default pictures.

How long has this been going on?
Can you do a system restore to before it started?

The attachments are stored in the Temporary Internet Files unless/until you save them to a different location. When you click the Next arrow, you'll get the next file that is in the Temp folder, which may not be the next picture you want (they are organized alphabetically).
Simplest way around it is to save all the picture attachments to a folder, then the Next and Previous arrows will go to the other pictures.

I have deleted the temporary internet files and there are a way less pictures showing up. They are definately ads etc from Internet Explorer. Any was to prevent them from showing up?

NO. As soon as you go on the Internet, you start accumulating Temp Internet files.
Create a folder somewhere to save attachments to. Then when you open an E-mail with a group of pictures attached, right click one and select "Save all" and save them to the attachment folder. Then the "Previous" and "Next" arrows will allow you to browse through them.
