Your HP Pavilion 6830 has an Intel Celeron 700 MHz processor and supports up to 512 MB of RAM(which means you can install a 256 MB module in each of its 2 RAM slots). Since you're running Windows ME, you should consider installing a 128 MB module in both RAM slots and getting the amount up to 256 MB. The performance boost your computer will get will be noticable.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Your startup load appears to be trimmed down good, but I don't see where you have an antivirus program installed. If that's the case, you need to get one.

Thanks Flavallee and MFD

Flavallee...Call me crazy but i prefer to run my system without those pesky anti virus programs. To me it seems the cure is worse than the desease with those pesky puppies gobbling up my resources and not wanting to play well with other programs. I practice safe computing..run spyware and adware checks frequently and when i do get a virus..(2 in five years) I go to panda or you guys and find a way to rid get rid of them. Call this a testament to how much faith I have in this web site...in other words... its your fault I dont have virus protection.
As far as memory goes,,I tried to put 2 128 ram modules on this thing and it would only recognize one of the modules. Got tired of messing with it and to tell you the truth I have this system running pretty snappy for dial-up (faster than some dsl systems I have seen). Except for download speeds I am pretty happy with what I have. Thanks for all your help and I guess we can close this thread. Luv ya'll

Sorry - You need an AV - otherwise you'll be back

You need

SpywareBlaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
AdAware SE http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html
SpyBot S&D 1.3 http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

DL them (they are free), install them, check each for their
definition updates
and then run AdAware and Spybot, fixing anything
they say.

In SpywareBlaster - Always enable all protection after updates
SpyBot - After an update run immunize

and then get

AVG 7 - http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/
