Wondering If someone would be kind enough to help me through getting rid of CWS. I have little experience with reg editing, and need some help.. None of the common programs including norton, CWShredder, or spybot work to remove this program. Norton doesnt even detect it.

So my browser home page has been redirected to
approvedlinks.com and I also get the common pop up window about
    "widows detected spysoftware scpstelth.cih..... "
In addition there is browser change that spybot s&D keeps stoping inwhich
    old data:gmail.google.com
    new data:letgohome.com/ph.htm?id=9

ok so i have figured out hjt and here is my log

any and all help will be greatly appreciated:

Hello subverse and Welcome to TSG! :D

Open Internet Explorer and at the top click on "Tools" and choose "Internet Options". Click on the "Advanced" tab and untick "Enable third-party browser extensions". Click on "Apply" then "OK".

Run HijackThis and fix the following entries:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://letgohome.com/hp.htm?id=9

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://letgohome.com/hp.htm?id=9

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://letgohome.com/hp.htm?id=9

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://letgohome.com/sp.htm?id=9

    Download Ad-Aware SE from here:
    http://www.download.com/3001-8022_4-10319876.html

Install and run Ad-Aware SE. On the bottom right corner of Ad-Aware you will see an option called "Check for updates now", click on that and choose "connect". Download the updates. Next click on "Scan now" on the left side of Ad-Aware. Make sure that "Search for negligible risk entries" is crossed out and not ticked. Choose "Perform full system scan" and click "Next". After Ad-Aware scans your computer, Ad-Aware may find some bad files on your computer so make sure you tick them all and choose "Next". It will ask if you want to remove those items so just continue. After removing the items close Ad-Aware.

    Download SpywareBlaster from here:
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=2859&file=11&evp=61b0e8ad41924a03c37615f4682b4cef

Install and run SpywareBlaster. Click on "Updates" and then choose "Check for updates". Next choose "Protection" and at the top you will see different tabs which are Internet Explorer, Restricted sites and Mozilla/Firefox. Choose one of them at a time and at the bottom click "Protect Against Checked Items" (make sure that all of the items are checked). Tick the boxes above the items. Make sure you do this for all of the top tabs. Mozilla/Firefox you only need to do if you have the user profiles on your computer. You may now exit out of SpywareBlaster.

    Download DelDomains from here:
    http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf

After downloading the file, Right-Click and select "Install". This will get rid of the O15 entry in HijackThis.

Restart your computer and post a fresh HijackThis log back on this thread.

Run HijackThis and fix the following entry:

    O4 - Global Startup: winlogin.exe

Close and run HijackThis again to make sure that the entry is gone.

Restart your computer and post a fresh HijackThis log back on this thread.

    Hi,

I have what appeared to be the same problem with similar entries in my Hijack log, so I followed Crushbone's suggestions. However, I could not delete winlogin because Hijack told me I had to close it first, but Windows would not let me close it because it was a critical process.

    Any suggestions?

    Here is my log:

ok here is the story,, i am still getting some dso exploits and ad-aware is still finding some dataminers, also SD is still ocassionally trying to stop some registry changes..

i tried to kill the 04 winlogin.exe but it says it is essential and in use. It then recommends that i kill the program in the taskmanager and return to HJT and try again; however, there is no winlogin.exe running under the task manager only a winlogon.exe and from what i understand one does not want to kill winlogon.exe.

    here it my log

The DSO exploit detection is a bug in the new version of Spybot. There is more information here:

    http://forums.techguy.org/t288711.html

Click Here and download the the new version of Killbox and save it to your desktop.

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Now put a tick by Delete on Reboot. In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste the following line then click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle. It will ask for confimation to delete the file on next reboot. Click Yes. It will then ask if you want to reboot now. Click No.

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\winlogin.exe

    Exit the Killbox.

Fix this entry with Hijack This:

    O4 - Global Startup: winlogin.exe

    Now restart your computer
