I have just purchased a Lexmark Z605 printer.

After installation I keep getting printing errors.
Tech support at Lexmark said it has to do with my usb card and the VIA TECH 3038 PCI to USB universal host controller had problems.

    Is there a solution?

yes, take it back and get a parallel port printer if the current USB printer doesn't work after several tries. Or,

Boot into Safe Mode; Right-click My Computer; click the Device Manager tab; Under any of the entries, do you see any yellow exclamation points; click the plus sign beside System Devices, any exclamation points or red Xs in there?

    Reply back.

Just another suggestion. Does the printer have a parallel port or just a USB port? If it has both ports and you don't mind using parallel instead of USB, get a parallel port cable. Make sure it's one that's made for printers, and make sure the length is less than 10'. If both type ports are present, the printer manual should have instructions for installing the printer and software/drivers for both of them.

If that is a viable option for you, I would certainly give it a shot.

    Just a follow up.
After re-formating my computer, it would seem that it did not help. The same error message came up. With a little more research the techs found they had to turn off the spooling to make the printer print. So they did not have to re-format in the first place.
The nice thing is they only charged me for a half hour of labour for finding the trouble. With this all said and done, they had to put a used sound card and a video card into my computer because there were no drivers to be found for my existing board and I did not have a disks.
Well there is always something to be learned.

    Thanks again jag
