My printer (Dell A940 All in One) is possessed.

It is printing huge blue bars over all colour images and text. Here's a picture.

Is there something broken with the printer or does the cartridge need to be replaced?

Well as I can see behind the blue, it is printing all of the colors....the print head(the print head on the cartridge) is probably just bad. Just buy a new cartridge and it should be fine.

Yes, it's printing all the colours but putting blue bars over it.

Even if I print a document in red ink, it still has blue bars.

Well yes, like I said, It's probably just a bad print head, especially if the cartridge is old or has been refilled.(especially several times). These printers are not the best anyway, they are made by lexmark. Canon makes great printers and have cheap ink. Also hewlett-packards are good, they have nice AIO's.

I'll whine to Dell and get them to send me a replacement cartridge. Getting fed up with this shotty quality.

Have you done the alignment for your Printer? Sometimes a printer may mess up your writing until you align it properly (has happened many of times to myself).

If you've aligned it, then continue your quest with Dell. :p

Dell sent a new colour ink cartridge last week and it fixed the problem.
