Ok, I have three computers...one desktop and two laptops, all running Vista and all connected via wireless network. My problem is that I'm having trouble accessing files on those computers. What do I need to do to fix this???

Could you be more specific about "having trouble accessing files"?

Can you ping from PC to PC by IP address? By computer name? Do the other computers appear in Start - Network? Etc.?

Did you duplicate the username and passwords on all the machines? Do all user accounts have passwords?

Sorry, I'll be more specific...Perfect example is when I try to access files on my wife's laptop from mine. The files I want to access have been shared. Yes, her computer does appear in Start - Network. But when I click on it I get the attached message.

One possibility is a non-Windows firewall on (or used to be on) one of the PCs, with TARIA being the most likely. What non-Windows firewall (security suite) are on, or have been on, each?

While you consider that issue please show for your laptop and for TARIA ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

    Type the following commands:

    nbtstat -n

    IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

"NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Disabled" is a big problem on Taria. Ping by computer name will fail, but ping by IP address should still work. I can't remember my ever being successful at helping resolve a missing NetBIOS issue. :(

In my limited experience configuring AVG Internet Security is loads of fun. That is, if frustration is your idea of fun. :(

In case you are "ping challenged" open a Command Prompt on your laptop and type

ping 192.168.2.1 to ping the router,
ping 192.168.2.4 to ping your wife's laptop assuming the IP address hasn't changed,
ping taria to ping by name (this will fail).

Try resetting the stack on the Vista machine.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows Vista.

Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

    Reboot the machine.

I'd like to see this again after the reset.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

Note that there is a space before the -n or the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the - or / in the following commands.

    NBTSTAT -n

    IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Ok, I followed your instructions and here are the results...

I was wondering; when I did the ndtstat -n, my wife's laptop said "Failed to access NetBT driver -- Net BT may not be loaded". Is that a problem???

    Yes; it's the same problem that caused, "NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Disabled" .

I think I figured it out...I have AVG Internet Security running on all my machines; which of course has its own firewall. I went into my wife's computer and turned of Windows Firewall and now I can access her files from my laptop.
