I'm not entirely sure how this happened, but most of the programs i use (AIM, iTunes...) won't run claiming I'm missing the msvcrtdm.dll - from the research I've done this is actually a viral .dll. Is there any way I can fix this problem?

Thanks!

Hi, Matt616.:)

Welcome to TSG.

  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi, Matt616 :)

There are signs of a PurityScan infection.

Look in your control panel add/remove programs for the following:

Oin
outerinfo
Yazzle by Oin
Purityscan by Oin
Snowballwars by Oin
or anything similar with Oin or Outerinfo in it.
Zolero
Tizzletalk
MediaTickets
Cowabanga

Click on it and click remove.

Download and run the Purityscan uninstaller from Here

Your Java seems to be out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application. Beware it is NOT supported for use in 9x or ME and probably will not install in those systems

Ugrading Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.
Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Note: In the event you already have Vundofix, this is a new version that I need you to download.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
  • When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt in your next reply.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Download ComboFix from Here or Here. to your Desktop.

Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download.
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Hi, Matt616 :)

Anti-Virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash.

If you choose to install more than one Anti-Virus program on your computer, then only one of them should be active in memory at a time.

There are basically two types of these programs:
On-Access and On-Demand

On-Access Scanners
As the name implies, are scanners that run in the background all the time the PC is turned on and running. The main function of an On-Access scanner is to monitor activity on your machine.

On-Demand Scanners
As the name implies, are scanners that only run when you ask them to.
Such as: Online Scans and scanners that run on your machine but are not actively scanning your machine.

In addidion, you are using two of the worst antivirus programs. Both McAfee and Norton are resources hogs. Meaning, they are notorious for depleting your computer's resources. You must remove one of the Antivirus Programs.

Please download the OTMoveIt by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank

Now close all windows and browsers, other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

  • Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

Hi, Matt616 :)

1. Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the contents of the quote box below into a new Notepad file. Save it with file name options.txt and save as file type: all files to your desktop.

RegSearch Options File

[Search]
MSVCRTDM.DLL

[Exclude]

[Options]
Filter=KVDLUI
2. Download Registry Search to your desktop.
  • Right click on the compressed RegSearch folder, and choose "Extract All". In the box that pops open, click "Next", then "Next" again, and then "Finish". You now have another RegSearch folder on your desktop.
  • Open the new folder, and double click on regsearch.exe
  • Click "Import" in the lower left corner and browse to the options.txt file that you just saved on your desktop. Do not choose the one in the RegSearch folder itself.
  • Click OK and Registry Search will scan your registry for the file(s), and a Notepad box will open with a report.
  • Please reply here with the entire contents of the Notepad file from RegSearch.

      [*]Windows AdTools
  • and remove.
  • Copy the entire contents of the Quote Box below to Notepad.
  • Name the file as ComboFix-Do.txt
  • Change the Save as Type to All Files
  • and Save it on the desktop
Code:
File::
C:\Documents and Settings\Matt\Desktop\Click to Find and Fix Errors.url

Folder::
c:\program files\Windows SyncroAd

ADS::

Driver::

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Windows SyncroAd]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Windows ControlAd]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Windows ControlAd]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
"Windows SyncroAd"=-
"Windows ControlAd"=-

Once saved, refering to the picture above, drag ComboFix-Do.txt into ComboFix.exe, and post back the resulting report along with a Hijackthis log.

If you still havng problem with AIM, download a install the latest version over the existing installation. Let me know if that makes any difference. Chances are that the trojan may have compromise the installation.

Hi, Matt616 :)

There is always a way.

Download the enclosed file. Save and extract its contents to the desktop. It is a folder containing a Registry Entries file, Regfix.reg . Once extracted, open the folder and double click on the Regfix.reg file and select Yes when prompted to merge it into the registry.

  • Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

C:\Documents and Settings\Matt\Desktop\Click to Find and Fix Errors.url
    c:\program files\Windows SyncroAd

  • Return to OTMoveIt, right click on the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be moved" window and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
    • If able, copy everything on the Results window to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it on a note pad document. Save it on the desktop and post its contents in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Keep me posted.

Still not working...

File/Folder C:\Documents and Settings\Matt\Desktop\Click to Find and Fix Errors.url not found.
File/Folder c:\program files\Windows SyncroAd not found.

Created on 07-10-2007 21:29:58

The biggest problem I'm having is that whenever I try to install an application the install wizard pops up and then disappears - I can't install most programs.
