Solved: Processor question

    My HP XT983 desktop can with a Athlon 1400 cpu. I don't know which Athlon, but I want to upgrade without changing the MB. Can I and if so, how much? Thank you.

    From what I can find out [very limited info on hp site] your board does not support the xp type cpu so you already have the fastest cpu the system will support.

    BTW that is very old technology. If you want any performance improvement, look into a newer mb with an amd dual/quad core setup.

    Here is the link for the board specs. It does not list an athlon xp just an athlon or duron cpu. HP link
