(Solved) QuickBooks 2000 Write Letters Error

I've been using Quick Books write letters for several years, and Thursday I started getting an error message which reads: "QuickBooks could not create your letter. Problem encountered with merging your QuickBooks letter with the names selected. Try a different letter." It doesn't matter which names or letters I use I get the same error message. Did I do something wrong, and if so how can I fix it? Thanks!!!!

Unfortunately this is not the problem. Everything was working fine and then all of a sudden it wasn't working. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling QuickBooks and that didn't work. I think it has something to do with when QuickBooks tries to open Word, but I don't know what. If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears!

Hmmm

I wonder if its the Normal.dot that is corrupt.

Go to Find Files, and type in Normal.dot
Search the entire drive.

When found, rightclick, choose Rename and call it Normal.old

Make sure Word and Quickbooks is closed when you do this, and after the rename, re-open QB.

Does that help?

Thats all I can find out about that particular error. Did you try it anyway, just to be sure?

What are you actually doing, when the error comes up?

Yes, I did try it. It was working fine about 1-1/2 weeks ago and then all of a sudden it stopped working right. Funny thing is I can edit the template letters, but I can't choose a person and have the blanks filled in for them.

Have you tried to see if there is an update availaible, that may help?

Open QuickBooks, choose Update QuickBooks from the File menu, and then click Update. If you have not set up your Internet Connection to work with QuickBooks, click Configure and follow the instructions.

In the QuickBooks Update Service window, click Go Online.
The QuickBooks Update Status window displays and shows you what the Service is downloading. You may click Cancel at any time, but you will not receive all updates if you do so.
When your computer is finished, check the Updates Received section of the QuickBooks Update Service window for asterisks next to the updates received.
Exit QuickBooks and click Yes to install the update. We recommend that you restart your computer after the installation is complete.

Note: You must update QuickBooks each time the program is uninstalled and reinstalled.

Solution! I finally figured it out. I had a feeling it had something to do with the Word template, so I got brave and deleted anything that said Normal except for one, and now it works! Thanks for all your time and suggestions!!! :)))
