so,recently my brothers computer has slowwed down severley. now on most computers ive seen its the cpu maxed out,but on his its the ram. you can watch youtube smoothly but it takes forever to exit. i gave his computer the regular, virus scan, garbage cleanup, defragmentation. but none of that did much. when he was playing sims 3 i checked task manager and it said the rams at 98%. now i thought. ok,simple close all processes having to with sims and it should run atleast alittle smooth, it worked at first the process dropped down to 86%. so i figured i was on the right track at least but about 5 minutes later it shot back up to 98%.now nothing new was open the entire time i left it alone just looking through the procceses to see what was eating so much power. from what i saw the numbers didnt add up since most didnt even top 1,000 kb to run but then again i didnt really count. heres the spec via tsg sys info

    Howdy,

You could post your HijackThis log and see if anything shows up

    Download HijackThis to your desktop
    • Click on Executable
    • Click Run and Install
    • it will launch Hijack This
    • Click on "scan system and save a logfile" usually in notepad
    • Copy and Paste the logfile in your next post
    • Using Ctrl+A to copy All and Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste.

it ran great in safe mode,it even shut down faster. its even running smoother right now. but in safe mode absolutley evrything was deactivated cudnt turn on wifi. or even the audio. so in other words if theres anything i need to do in safe mode u need to tell me everything at once cuz i coudnt turn on the wifi in anyway.
thanks, i didnt expect safe mode to help that much.
ps.about 5 minutes later it got slow again so i guess its a late starting program

from my expierence of VISTA/WIN7 2gig of ram isn't enough for it to run smoothly.

IMHO a simple RAM upgrade should do the trick.

    agree with above post.

1979mb of ram + 797mb of shared video memory leaves you only like 1100mb of ram left

personal preference would be to uninstall IE and use Firefox or Opera. more stable and use fewer resources.
    EDIT
i also see WLM (Windows Live Messenger) iTunes helper, iTunes, QuickTime player.

all of which if not needed can be removed. as iTunes helper runs in the background even if iTunes isn't running.

Please download Malwarebytes Free Version Click Here to your desktop.
    • Then double click on the file you have just download and install.
    • Run it and click on the Update tab and get the Updates.
    • Run a Quick Scan on all drives, this will take awhile please be patient.
    • Check everything it finds and Remove Selected.
    • It may need to reboot to complete the removal say Yes.
    • A log file will open in Notepad please Copy & Paste it in your next post.

So that a log expert can see it.

nevermind he sent it to some tech guy. he said it was a virus. what it does is it makes fake processes. it say theres 66 process running and it maxxed out the ram. when he cleaned it it dropped down to 500 mb or about 25%. thanks for helping though. thats a new virus too me so this was all good to know :D
    ps.
()i ran a avg scan and it didnt detect it. so word for others. avg sux...or atleast alone it does.(unread this)

sorry for everyone else they called the guy behind my back so i cant tell you what he use to fix it.

scratch all i said before, my brother told me they didnt actually fix it he just blanked it and started it fresh again...so i guess this is technically unsolved ???.oh well i guess...i really wanted to know what it was..
