Hi there, I've got a problem on my Pc when starting the internet. My startpage is being deverted to a search engine "about: search" and then a few (usually 2) pop-ups occur telling me that my pc is infected by spyware/addware. I've located the file causing this as being "aad.dll" under windows\system\aad.dll
Norton 2004-sbybot-ad-aware6.0-windows explorer, and even MS-dos, none of them can erase the file.
Do I need to reformat my Pc or is there another solution?

    All help is welcome
    Best regards
    dany

    Hi LAFENAP

    Welcome to TSG! :)

    Please do this:

First create a permanent folder somewhere like in My Documents and name it Hijack This.

Now Click here to download Hijack This. Download and save the file to the Hijack This folder you just created.

Click on Hijackthis.exe to launch the program.

Click the "Scan" button when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.

The log should open in notepad. Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required. Someone here will be glad to advise you on what to fix.

    Hi Flrman1,

I downloaded hijackthis, did as you told, and the result is here below. By the way, I am still working with win 98SE (mainly for the kids there games).
I hope you know what to do, cause I can hardly go the the home page of my server 'skynet', instead I always got the page "about: blank" and some pop-ups telling the pc is slow, the pc is infected, that I must download anti spyware (after paying for it).

    Best regards
    dany

UnZip the startdreck.zip file first. DoubleClick: 'StartDreck.exe'
First click on the config button.
Now click the Unmark all button
Put a check by these boxes only:
    *Registry->run keys
    *Registry->Browser helper objects
    *System/drivers> Running processes
    hit >ok.

Now click the Save button to save that log.

Copy and Paste the contents of that log back here and await further instructions.

Click here to download CWShredder. Close all browser windows, click on the cwshredder.exe then click "Fix" (Not "Scan only") and let it do it's thing.

When it is finished restart your computer.

Go here and download Adaware SE.

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

From main window :Click Start then under Select a scan Mode tick Perform full system scan.

Next deselect Search for negligible risk entries.

Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

    Restart your computer.

Come back here and post another Hijack This log after you run CWShredder and Adaware.

    Hi flrman,

Amazing what a miracleman you are. After I followed your advice, CWShredder found 6 files and cleaned it, now it says the system is clean. Adaware found first 14 treads (alexa or so), and deleted them. I restarted the pc and got my homepage back (lovely), did it all over again, adaware found 2 more things and deleted them.
So here is the logfile : hopefully its OK
