    Hi there!

I've been reading posts for the past two weeks trying to solve this myself. Now a little help will be greatly appreciated in getting rid of these evil trojans.

I run an XP laptop. I use McAfee Virus Scan & Pest Patrol (both regularly updated). I've loaded and used HiJackThis, Spybot, CWShredder & Panda Active Scan in attempts to clean my computer- without complete success.

When I am connected to the internet and fire up IE, Virus Scan reports:

    nbtrstat.exe, AdClicker-BM, windows\system32, deleted
    rdsclips.exe, NTRootKit-H, windows\system32, deleted
    sethcd.exe, AdClicker-BW, windows\system32, deleted

After this I get the usual pop-ups for online poker, firewall breaches, girls, etc.

I have solved my first problem- that of IE getting hijacked to about:blank pages. Just looking to finish this off. I look forward to your help!!!

    Here's my HiJackThis log:

    Hi cmuskat, Welcome to TSG!!

Run HJT again and put a check in the following:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {94CE0526-0A2F-228C-EED8-F23BE379E698} - msag.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8B32DC0D-A166-4C73-8FE6-964EC5B9696F} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msbmx.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ServiceLoad] C:\WINDOWS\lsass.exe
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
    O16 - DPF: {11212111-2121-1311-1141-115611111222} - ms-its:mhtml:file://d: oo.mht!http://69.50.166.214/counter/new/x.chm::/update.exe
    O16 - DPF: {640B39C1-D713-464F-92C3-75BD972B95EE} - http://download.sidestep.com/get/k00719/sb028.cab
    O16 - DPF: {CE74A05D-ED12-473A-97F8-85FB0E2F479F} (dlControl.UserControl1) - http://web1.nugs.net/dev/dlControl.CAB

Close all applications and browser windows before you click "fix checked".

    Restart in safe mode

Open Windows Explorer. Go to Tools, Folder Options and click on the View tab. Make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files". Now click "Apply to all folders" Click "Apply" then "OK".

    Delete this file: C:\WINDOWS\lsass.exe

Note that the file LSASS.EXE in the WINDOWS SYSTEM folder (Ex: "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\LSASS.EXE"), is the legitimate Microsoft Windows system file.

    Reboot.

    So far so good!

I followed your instructions and haven't seen Virus Scan report the previous .exe files, nor have the popups come back!

Thanks for the help! I'll recommend TSG to anyone with similar issues (hopefully I'll avoid using it for the same thing in the future!).
