My operating system is: Windows XP, Home Edition

Often, when someone forwards an image to me by e-mail, all that appears is a blank box with a small red "X" in the upper left corner.

Is there something I can do to receive these images ?

It sounds like your anti-virus software is blocking them, have you checked it's email settings?

In addition to Anti-Virus possibly blocking if you're using Outlook Express it will block images from external sources as well. I'd assume most e-mail clients do now. You should get a drop down security warning asking you if you want to allow the image to display.

It's privacy measure, the image itself is harmless but it's linked to an external source and could be used for example to track whether you opened the email or not.
