I've downloaded Registry Mechanic, thinking I may have registry issues. Then I saw an article poo, poo ing registry cleanup. RM scanned and claimed 103 errors , but needed $39. upfront to clean them up. I'm holding back the $$ till I get some expert advice....Anyone care to input.. thanks, ez

Hello Ezjim,

There are other registry cleaners which do not require payment up front. There are also cleaners which are freeware.

Since you suspect registry problems you are probably familiar with editing the registry. There are several ways of bringing about changes in the registry. Depending on your operating system there may be variations in method. I have familiarity only with WinMe. However I cannot but believe the system you are using does not have automatic backups for the past five days. If you believe the problem arose before this time period, Do you have system restore?

This registry cleaner:

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Registry-Tweak/Registry-Healer.shtml offers a free trial. I am currently using it on that basis. It is satisfactory.

I also use RegSeeker:

http://www.snapfiles.com/freeware/system/fwregtools.html

which, although no updates have been offered, proves very useful but with the proviso that if you have MS Word or similar software you should exercise caution in deleting entries offered for same.

With same proviso, this too is an effective freeware:

jv16 PowerTools 1.3 (2.1 MB) from:
