My computer has decided to plot against me...

Whenever I click on a link inside an e-mail or open a new IE window.... and do lots of other stuff.... or nothing at all.... I get the following error message:

"Runtime error!
Program: C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support tean for more information."

Whenever I click OK, which is the only option I have to get rid of the error box, my computer goes blank.... just a background with no desktop icons, no taskbar, no nothing. I can do Ctrl>Alt>Delete and tell my computer to shut down and it won't do anything... not even shut down. I always have to turn off my computer inproperly..... grrrrrrr.

1) what does this error mean and how in the world can I fix it?
2) What in the world is RunTime anyways?

THANKS, SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!
You guys ROCK!

Try this:
Quit all programs that are running.
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.

Lets have a closer look at your system then :

First please get Spybot S&D to clear out most of the spyware.

Short tutorial and download link here:
http://tomcoyote.org/SPYBOT/

Fix everything SpybotSD labels in red.

Then after reboot:
Download 'Hijack This!'. http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, load it in Notepad, and copy its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.
