Bob627:

You've got unnecessary programs loading during startup and running in the background. Click Start - Run, type in MSCONFIG, then click OK - Startup(tab). Uncheck the following:

REALSCHED.EXE

QTTASK.EXE
(Also, do a "find" and delete the QTTASK.EXE file)

REALPLAY.EXE

WINZIP32.EXE

Click Apply - OK, then reboot.

I don't see SCANREGW.EXE (ScanRegistry) in the startup list. If this one is unchecked, you need to recheck it. This one is needed for backup copies of the registry to be saved.

You can research the list of running processes yourself by using the "Search" option at this site.

Telecomm69 is one of the best for fixing a HijackThis log, so follow his advice.

Open the C:\WINDOWS\DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES folder. If any of them are listed as "Damaged" or "Unknown", right-click them and delete them.

Oddly enough, after downloading CW Shredder, I restarted in Safe Mode but Windows was not load. When I did Control, Alternate, Delete I saw "Explorer, Not Responding. I clicked "End Task" upon which Windows still did not load and I hit the power button. When I rebooted, just for the heck of it, I open up Yahoo, and NO SEARCH PAGE took over. One thing I did not mention in my previous posts was that ever since this search page took over, no Java applets would open for me. But CW Shredder seemed to have taken care of that problem too. It's a mystery to me.

Another problem I encountered with this whole mess, is my MSCOREE.dll file seemed to be missing and I could not download certain programs especially IE6. Also all of these spyware programs recommended to me would not download unless I selected "save to disk". I could not use "open from it's current location" Norton utilities found one problem...:c:\program files\common files\installshield\professional\runtime\o701\intel32\dotnetinstaller.exe cannot access a necessary file. "mscoree.dll" Norton also could not repair this.
Hopefully by the end of this evening, I can close out this post and be a happy camper again. You guys are such experts.
Thanks

Bob627:

Create a folder right on your desktop, then name it My Downloads.

Every time you download a program, don't select "Open", but select "Save to disk" instead, and direct it to be saved in the My Downloads folder.

Doing this allows you to know where each downloaded file is at, and it allows you install it when you're ready to do so.

Once the downloaded file is installed, you can either delete it or save it for a future reinstall, if needed. (y)

You still need to remove some running processes from the startup load, but let Telecomm69 and MFDnSC finish helping you with the log first.
