have done the fix these with hjt
    I could only click on
the 1st 2 02 bho files and the 020 one.. the others weren't there.

laptop shutting down is still the same as before.
boot up is now actually a bit worse..

from windowsxp (first screen to show) stays on for 30secs, then goes black, then grey, then windows is starting up comes on, log in screen takes a few more secs to show.. then once logged on, loading your personal settings takes 40 secs,,, (this is the new bit) then goes to blue screen and hangs for nearly two mins and another 35 secs before the icons appear.

    Have i done something wrong??

Once your Pc loads up - how is it running?

My next move would be a Clean Boot - it could be a program - Service, that is stalling at start up.
    Read all instructions first.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353

    http://www.pctechguide.com/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows-xp/clean-booting
    --------
    Check Device Manager
    http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm
Click the + sign to expand all entries.
    Check for exclamation marks.
If a driver is needed - always go to the manufacturers website.
    --------

    Run the scan at Intel.
If the Chipset driver is listed - install that first.
Always restart the Pc after each driver is installed.

What is the make and model number of your Pc?

Seems to be working okay once finally loaded up...

will go read about clean booting.

i do have one other option before i go read that.. and that is restore to factory settings..
that will mean that i have to reinstall a few programs\software that will be wiped,, am hoping to not have to do that.
maybe after reading the above link.. i can decide what to do.

I will let you know later.

thanks blues harp for all you have done here on this.

Glad to be of some help!!

A factory restore - does not always work correctly.
What is the make and model number of your Pc?

    Check Device Manager
    Run the scan at Intel.
Before you try the clean boot.

    okay... I have now done
a chipset update, restarted after doing this. (no diff)
also a system update from lenovo, again restarted and no diff.. :(

would unistalling avg antivirus and then defragging the drive make any diff , i'm thinking that the avg is newest software and this problem might be linked.. grasping at straws here.
trying to avoid a clean boot.. looks complicated. :(

    You and me both ;)

In msconfig - untick, as a test Avg.
Restart and see if it makes any difference.
Stay offline while you do the above.

    Anything showing in Device Manager?

    Yes the Start Up tab.
    Untick Avg.
Apply > Ok > Reboot your Pc.

The System Configuration Utility box appear on retstart - saying changes have been made.
Tick the box on the lower left and then OK.
If Avg is not the problem - retick in msconfig.

    Intel processor 1.66GHz
    Running at 980MHz

The processor will automatically reduce the speed when resources are not in use.
But go to - Control Panel > Power Options.
Change the power scheme to Always On.
Apply > Ok > then restart your Pc.
