    Start - Run - Type
    msconfig
    Click on - Services
Click - Hide All Microsoft Services

Uncheck [Disable] everything in the list.
    Then restart your laptop.

    Go back to msconfig
Re-tick one item at a time in Services.
Restart your laptop - until you find a problem or all are finally ticked.

    Post back what you find.

Okay Now we are looking good........ heh heh

after a lot of clicking, restarting and unclicking in the services tab
4 items generated the same error 6025 msg re the rrpservice,
only 1 caused the blue screen hanging etc... that was mbam service.
double checked the others once I gone through the whole list.

right now only 2 items are unchecked.
Mbam service (error msg and hanging etc)
    Googleupdate service (gupdate) error msg

    shut down is now at 18secs.... :) :) :)
boot up at 1min 20 approx :) :) no hanging at usual spots. :).

I assume I can uninstall mbam and just leave the googleupdate service unchecked.

I do not understand though is i was getting the error msg and blue screens etc BEFORE I downloaded mbam.
Is it the sequence of the services or the fact that they were all cleared and set back in one by one.
    I'm curious. :)

Ok - this is looking good :)
Mbam as you know belongs to Malwarebytes and the free version should not be loading at start up.
Do not uninstall it - it is well worth keeping.

    Start > Run > Type
    services.msc

In Services - scroll down the Google [anything Google related] - Mbam, one at time and set to Manual.

    Right click - Properites
In the startup type drop box - select Manual option.

    Click Ok.
    Restart your Pc.
Why this has changed the start up and shutdown, may still remain a mystery.
Let it run with the above changes for awhile and let us know if this is now solved.

The trial version of Malwarebytes will revert to the Free version, once the trial period has expired.
Hi to you too - where are my manners ;)

    i'm back..

have done the services.msc changes.. and still looking good.. so we are.. :)
I did 2 reboots just to check on things.. one using the restart and other shut down.. then power on as normal.

using the restart button adds a few secs onto the reboot time... but I am not complaining..

I am delighted that this is working so fast again. reminds me of the old days. lol

thank you so very much Blues for your help and patience with this. your knowledge is invaluable. thank you!!

    :)
