Hi guys. I hope you can help on this issue I've been having with my internet connection, I don't know what to do...

I resently formatted my harddrive because my internet all of a sudden started being very slow but after the format it's still the same issue. Now I've tried plugging the connection line into my laptop and there there's no problem.

I am gettin' a slower download than upload...

I have a 10mb download/1 upload speed LAN connection. I ran a speed test on the same connection and on my stationary it shows like 250 kbs download and like 750 kbs upload, while on my laptop it shows like 8 Mbs download and 750 kbs upload... so what's the problem?

So far I've found out that it has nothing to do with the internet connection line or my NIC (I tried a brand new one and it was the same issue), it's not spyware or malware, it's not fragmented and under internet connections it says that I'm connected on a 100 Mb network card and there are no problems with any of the devices?

However I can see that if I open the job list, the download connection is very unstable going from up to 750 kb for a breif moment then falls to a halt at 0 kb... and moreover it says that I'm not using any percent of the network?

I'm on windows 7 and haven't had any problems before this, the rest of the system works just fine, but not the internet. If I try and download something it won't get higher than like 50 kb and then may stop altogether...

Hi.

Thanks for replying...

I still haven't figured the problem out.

Now I am not a tech wiz so I don't really know what an MTU is or what a ping is supposed to be?

I tried this InstantHelp program which tests your internet connectivity and lol it said that I download at 1.32 kb or smth... here the rest of the log... Perhaps it can help?

So far I've found out that it has nothing to do with the internet connection line ...
How did you determine that? My suspect list includes your ISP, the modem, the cable from modem to PC and the NIC or driver. I think your reinstall and trying a new NIC puts it way down on the list, except for the following.

Sometimes, for reasons unknown to me, a NIC has trouble auto-syncing a speed with the modem. In Device Manager right click the ethernet - Properties - Advanced. For the "speed & duplex" property try different values, starting with 100 Mbps full duplex and 10 Mbps full duplex.

Hi there.

Just wanted to post an update to what the problem was. It turned out it indeed was the modem which was odd because the connection worked fine on my laptop for a while, but then the connection on it too, began to faulter which was why I decided to contact the ISP to tell them about the problem and they sent me a new modem/router and it now works fine!

So this problem is a heads-up for anyone experiencing the same issue that even though the connection can work fine on one computer and not work at all on another doesn't neccisarily mean that it is the computer or hardware that is the problem.
