Go here, then click the large blue "Download Now @ Bleeping Computer" button to download and save AdwCleaner.exe to your desktop.

Close all open windows first, then double-click AdwCleaner.exe to load its main window.

Click the "Scan" button, then allow the scanning process to finish.
(Note: Several seconds may pass before the scanning process starts, so be patient.)

Click the "Logfile" button.

When the log appears, save it.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE log here.

Note: After you submit the log, close AdwCleaner. If a warning appears, click "Yes".

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Click Start, then type MSCONFIG in the search or run box, then press the Enter key.

When the small "System Configuration" window appears, click the "Startup" tab.

Write down ONLY the names in the "Startup Item" column that have a checkmark next to them.

If the "Startup Item" column isn't wide enough to see the entire name of any of them, widen the column.

Submit those names here in a vertical list.

Make sure to spell them EXACTLY as you see them there.

Your laptop has an AMD E1-1200 APU 1.40 GHz processor.

Besides having a low speed and sharing its use with the laptop's graphics device, it has a very low benchmark score - 685.

An Intel Core 2 Duo or Intel i3 processor would've been a much better one to have in your laptop and would've greatly improved speed and performance.

Your laptop is never going to have jackrabbit speed and performance.

Computer seems to be running better....Thank you.
After reading your post #5...computer ran fine when I purchased it. Over the years it's gotten slower and slower as I'm sure most computers do. If I purchased a new hard drive would that speed things up even more?
Thank you again for your help.

#9 ·
OS bloat can cause a computer to slow down. 5 years ago, you didn't have all those security patches installed.

You do have 4GB of RAM, which is the minimum I use, even in 32 bit versions that don't make use of all the RAM and you hard drive is fairly empty, which is also good.

D looks to be getting crowded D: Total - 19932 MB, Free - 2161
check into cleaning out some things there, provided it is not a restore/recovery partition. If it is a restore/recovery than the small free space is understandable.

What is your Win 7 index? That will tell us what is slowing down the system.

#11 ·
Sorry...I don't know where to find Win 7 index.
Right-click COMPUTER, then click Properties.

The system properties window will appear.

Click Windows Experience Index.

Click Run the assessment.

After's it's done(which will take a few minutes), you will see 5 component headings:

Processor
Memory(RAM)
Graphics
Gaming graphics
Primary hard disk

Advise Liz what the score is for all 5 headings.

When I click my computer I show 'local disk C' and 'recovery D'. In the past I've done a disk cleanup on D drive but nothing seems to happen. Anyway to remove some items in D?
Do NOT mess with nor remove anything from the D: drive!

It contains the files to do a factory restore/system recovery - if it becomes necessary in the future.

Computer seems to be running better....Thank you.
I'm glad to hear that.

At least we made some progress.

The processor has the lowest score ( 3.6 ) in the list of components and is the main bottleneck for that computer having more speed and better performance.

If I recall correctly, the HP 2000 series laptops sold for about $300.00 when they were released. You get what you pay for.

------------------------------------------------------------

#15 ·
If I decide to purchase a new laptop what do you suggest as a good processor speed?
FYI: I have a Lenovo laptop with a current score of 3.3...even tho' score is low laptop is plenty fast. I did have problems with Lenovo laptop and worked through them with help from TECH GUYS. Ended up having to purchase a new hard drive. Would a new hard drive help the HP laptop at all?

It's my guess that 3.3 score is associated with the graphics or gaming graphics and not with the processor or RAM, or hard drive.

If I decide to purchase a new laptop what do you suggest as a good processor speed?
I haven't bought a brand new computer in over 7 years. I only buy refurbished desktops and laptops now because they cost a lot less and they don't come with all the "bloat-ware" that new computers have.

An Intel Core i3 or Intel Core i5 processor and 4 - 8 GB of DDR3 RAM should do you fine.

---------------------------------------------------------

#18 ·
No.
The hard drive is not the bottleneck. Putting in a hard drive or even an ssd will not change the index.

I just checked out our four Windows 7 computers: two desktops and two netbooks to see if swapping out a hd for an ssd would speed any of them up. It won't/
One desktop and one netbook, the low score is caused by the CPU.
The other desktop and netbook, the low score is caused by the graphics which is a chip on the motherboard.

Save the money you would spend for a new hard drive. Next laptop read the specs on the CPU speed and graphics to see how it compares to all the laptops for sale.

#19 ·
I agree with Liz. Save your money for a laptop that has a better processor and more horsepower.

The processor is the main component that gives a computer its speed and performance. Replacing or upgrading the hard drive isn't going to make the processor work any better.
