I just recently started having trouble with computer moving slow. When i boot up it seems fine. I have cable connection. When i go into websites like msn it takes forever for me to get into anything. I ran spybot and removed a BUNCH of stuff. But it is still happening. Do I need to stop stuff at start up? If so how do I know what to stop? How can I find out what's running in the background? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know nothing about computers other than mines slow all of a sudden

Some spyware may still be lingering

    Get Hijack This: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html

Make sure it's downloaded to a permanent folder of your creation on the hard drive.

    Once it installs, launch it
    Click "Scan", then "Save Log"
Copy & paste the log into this thread

Do not attempt to fix anything yet
Someone will analyze the log for you and give you further assistance

At quick glance, it looks clean

    This can be fixed: O9 - Extra button: WeatherBug - {AF6CABAB-61F9-4f12-A198-B7D41EF1CB52} - C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe (file missing) (HKCU)

Go ahead and download this program though:

    Ad-Aware SE: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Install and run it. On the bottom right corner of Ad-Aware you will see an option called "Check for updates now", click on that and choose "connect". Download the updates. Next click on "Scan now" on the left side of Ad-Aware. Make sure that "Search for negligible risk entries" is crossed out and not ticked. Choose "Perform full system scan" and click "Next". After Ad-Aware scans your computer, Ad-Aware may find some bad files on your computer so make sure you tick them all and choose "Next". It will ask if you want to remove those items so just continue. After removing the items close Ad-Aware.

    Reboot, post a new log

    It looks clean.
You could try trimming down some of the unnecessary processes.
But I don't know if that would change the speed of the webpages loading.

I could ask a Moderator about it.

Thanks Cheese for all your help. I tried all of this. It was still slow when I went into MSN webpages. So I got  and restored my computer. It's still slow. I was told i need to add some memory to my computer. I have 256MB now. Do you think adding memory will help?

You can have Hijack This fix these entries:

    O9 - Extra button: WeatherBug - {AF6CABAB-61F9-4f12-A198-B7D41EF1CB52} - C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe (file missing) (HKCU)

    O23 - Service: Content Monitoring Tool - Unknown - C:\WINDOWS\system32\msCMTSrvc.exe (file missing)

Adding more memory couldn't hurt. 256 MB is the minimum for Windows XP.

Do you do the normal system maintenance like Disk Cleanup, Disk Defrag?

No no of course you can! Anything lower than 256 would probably be bad. XP seems to really be a memory hog.

Oh ok. I have loaded paint shop pro. And am trying to learn how to use this. Some of the tutorials for that are on msn and it seems to take forever to look something up on msn. I thought it was their network. When i click on this forum it loads real quick. My road runner internet service page loads quick. Thanks for all your help and being patient with me. I know nothing about computers :(

    You're welcome :)

So it's mostly the MSN website giving you trouble?

Yeah. I have went into all kinds of sites and msn seems to lag the most. So think it's just them?? But I would like to speed up my computer when using paint shop pro though.
