    Hi people from TSG,
I am by no means good with computer technology, which is why I liked this quote: ''There's no such thing as a stupid question, but they're the easiest to answer.''
So about a year ago I bought a laptop from the Lenovo webshop and it has been running well. However after some time my laptop got some physical damage and thus I sent it back for repair since it was still under warranty. (This was several months ago, I should have probably delved deeper into the problems earlier)
When I got my laptop back it was very slow since it had also been reset, but of course I had to let it install windows updates first. After a lot of updates it has gotten better, but not to the state it was when I first bought it. I have tried resetting all software again, but still no improvements.
Is it possible something went wrong with my hardware when my laptop was being repaired? Am I missing crucial windows updates? Does it have to do with windows 8.1?
My laptop runs games like it did before, however it can't handle my browser and a game being run at the same time like it did.

    System Info:
Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 8.1, 64 bit
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3210M CPU @ 2.50GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 58 Stepping 9
    Processor Count: 4
    RAM: 1913 Mb
Graphics Card: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000, 1020 Mb
    Hard Drives: C: Total - 427670 MB, Free - 249026 MB; D: Total - 25599 MB, Free - 23608 MB;
    Motherboard: LENOVO, INVALID
    Antivirus: Windows Defender, Disabled

    I appreciate all the help!

    1. Welcome to Tech Support Guy

    2. Post the exact model details of the Lenovo please

    3. Windows Defender shown as disabled is a glitch in our system utility
However please confirm that the AV in use is Windows Defender and there is no other antivirus

    4. It will never best a smooth operation
I have no idea what the spec was before it went for repair
However you have Intel HD4000 graphics
They are integrated in the processor - the i5 3210
    http://ark.intel.com/products/67355/Intel-Core-i5-3210M-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-3_10-GHz-rPGA

and they will use 1020MB of ram
As you can see you have 1.9GB of system ram
Barely sufficient to run 64 bit Windows with any chance of gaming and a smooth operation.

    5. Send this please - the free Specccy

    System model: QIWG5

    3. I am using AVG, windows defender is disabled.

    4. I have never been able to run heavy games, but I used to be able to run less heavy games like for example Minecraft and run an internet browser along with it.

copy the URL from the browser and paste it to your reply
There are no personal details as such

Is AVG a free trial or have you purchased it
Were you using AVG before when all was OK

which QIWGS - a G480 or what - the details must be on the laptop somewhere usually on the base

    Here is the URL http://speccy.piriform.com/results/WOqrNMAWOC2HWwLCeV1s7qa

AVG is a free trial, and I did use it when my laptop was working fine.

On the base it says its a Lenovo G780 with model name 2182. I also see info such as factory ID but I'd assume that's not useful information.

The first job to do is to uninstall AVG do that using control panel programs and features
There may be more than one reference to AVG - uninstall all of them
If there is more than one entry deal with one at a time
    REBOOTING after each
Then run the AVG remover tool
    http://www.avg.com/gb-en/utilities

    and again REBOOT

check that Windows Defender is enabled, update it and run a quick scan
The first scan will take sometime but subsequent ones will be quicker

If it should find anything post the log please

AVG has a reputation for causing slow performance on Windows 8.1, after all has seemed OK for sometime. In fairness to AVG it is a common factor amongst many 3rd party AV programs on Windows 8/8.1

After this see if there is any improvement and I will look at Speccy later today

I suggest you try uninstall AVG and enable Windows Defender. Also try disable services that not being used like printer spooler, program compatibility service and diagnostic service. Install TuneUp Utilities and turn on Turbo Mode.

    Hope it works for you

I have suggested uninstalling AVG and using Defender- please see my post 6 - the one immediately above yours

    SuperDeuce
I advise that you do not disable any services, it is unnecessary on 8.1
Services on 8.1 are configured differently to previous systems and disabling the ones mentioned is both unnecessary and unwise

I further advise that you do NOT on any account install Tune Up utilities or any other such 3rd party program that purports to Tune - boost - clean and manage the system
They are often the kiss of death and should not be used.

Please wait until I have examined Speccy apart from the uninstall of AVG I recommended. This is to test if AVG is the cause. If that proves not to be the case, then the use of AVG can be reviewed when I have examined Speccy.

I have removed AVG from my laptop entirely, and let Windows defender do the scan. No threats were found.
Theres definitely some improvement though, but I still think I should be able to get more out of it. What suggestions did you have for me after going through the Speccy report?

Please right click the white Microsoft flag left of taskbar and right click on task manager click run as admin
    when task manager opens
    click start tab
and send me please the list of programs running at start that are ENABLED
Either type them if not many or with task manager on the screen send screenshot

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/...en#take-screen-capture-print-screen=windows-8

having saved your screenshot - on your reply click
    go advanced and manage attachments
then browse to saved file and click upload

I am looking to see if you have

Spotify web helper or perhaps some variant known as Spotify

Also Flux - could be a program that dims the screen at night - perhaps you know if you have installed it
