I'm running XP Pro with 512MB memory, but all seems to have slowed to a crawl. I'm also running AdAware, SpyBot and MS anti-Virus programmes as well as AVG Virus scan--I've been told that having a number of these programmes loaded isn't a problem as long as I don't run them simultaneously, but could that be my problem.

I'd be grateful if one of the experts on forum could have a look at the log below and let me know if there's an answer within.

    Many thanks

    Hello Wathog,

Your system may be running a little slow because you have 2 Anti Virus progs running at the same time, which means they are both trying to run scans all the time and therfore slowing things down a lot.

I would either uninstall AVG or AV Personal, personally I would keep the AVG as it rocks.

See how it goes once you have done that.

You need to update to the latest version of Hijack This.

Do you still have Nortons AV installed ?

This line is confusing me as there are no others relating to symantec in your log.

If you do have it installed, then it would be best to uninstall it totally from your system.
Nortons is a known resource hog, and you should never run more than 1 Anti-Virus on your comp.

I don't see anything in your log relating to spyware/malware,

Do you see a particular program hogging resources in the Task Manager ?

    Thanks, Kid

I'll give that a shot first--agree with you on the AVG.

No, I don't have Norton running--Installed it once, but wasn't impressed. I'll make sure it's all gone.

    Thanks!

    EvilEye and The Kid

I had a Norton folder in Program Files, but no uninstall file and nothing in Control Panel remove programs, etc.

Since I'm not doing anything with Norton, I deleted the folder and got rid of the AV Personal anti-virus program. Much quicker now.

Does the same advice apply to anti-spyware progs (i.e. only one on the system?). I've got MS Spyware and SpyBlaster loaded--should I dump one of them for the sake of performance?

No, the spyware apps will be ok, so long as you don't scan with both of them at the same time.

Anit virus programs will often be performing the same task in the background, and may conflict with each other.
