just above your first post is a link to SECURITY AND HJT, go to malware removal and hijackthis logs and get info on down loading hijackthis and post a log to see what causing it to boot so slow .
IM not allowed to suggest you download hijackthis ,you need to go to that section of the forum to do so

yoda05 , I think you'd be a bit hasty in going to the malware forum just yet . There's nothing to suggest a bit of maintenance wont solve the issue so how about you click Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Cleanup . Allow it to run it's course(it may take a while depending on what it finds) . You'll be prompted to approve removal of anything it finds . Check all boxes - there'll be nothing of significance removed . Now click Start/Run . Type msconfig and click on Startup tab . Uncheck anything that you know is not associated with your firewall/antivirus/security suite . Apply and exit . Reboot to effect the changes . You'll get a pop-up message from Windows saying you have used the system configuration utility . Tick the box that says Do not show this message or launch the utility on startup again (something like that anyway) . If the reboot was fast enough for you you can mark this as solved . If not please post back with your thoughts , also mentioning what firewall and antivirus you are running .

It is only a HJT log with Malware that needs to be handled by the Gold Shields from the Malware forum.

HJT logs are perfectly legit to view the running environment.

Download, install and run HijackThis
Run the Scan and save log file option
When the LOG file opens in Notepad, Select All, Copy
Then, return here and in a reply post, Paste.

I made the suggestion because i tried to help another poster by giving, them a link to malwarebytes and the instructions on how to use it ,because all other posters were given them wrong info!!!but had my post editided and was told not to post such ,so i thought not to add hijackthis link as it could be more dangerous that malwarebytes ,in the wrong hands .

#6 ·
Post a HijackThis log here, as previously requested. It'll show us what programs are installed and running in the background.

Most computer users are guilty of having too many unnecessary programs running in the background, and that in itself can negatively affect overall performance.

If the log indicates a problem with "nasties", you'll be referred to the "Malware - HijackThis Log" section.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Your computer supports a maximum of 2048 MB of RAM, and I was going to suggest adding more, but it uses the old and very expensive RDRAM modules, so that wouldn't be a cost-effective performance upgrade.

I have to admit that your O4 startup list looks good. The CA Internet Security Suite entries and the ctfmon.exe entry(which is associated with Microsoft Office and won't stay unchecked anyway) are the only startup entries checked, with the exception of the dvHighMem entry - which may or may not need to run in the background.

http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php?filter=dvHighMem

With the large number of SCU startup entries(6) and Services entries(9) that are associated with CA, it's my guess that it's the primary cause of the slow startup time and what's using much of the physical memory.

here is my hjt log. i also did msconfig, startup tab, un check eveything that had nothing to do with my anti virus and 1 other but i do not know what it was
you should not have done that ,you should have run hijackthis first so it could show what you had running ! i would suggest you turn them back on in msconfig and run hijackthis again and post new log .

Don't restart yet after you make the change in the SCU startup list.

Click Start - Run, type in SERVICES.MSC and then click OK.

When the Services window appears, expand it so you can read the list more clearly.

Double-click these entries:

Apple Mobile Device

Bonjour Service

LexBce Service

Winsock Svchost Manager

change their setting from "Automatic" to "Manual", then click Apply. You have to do one at a time.

After you're done, close the Services window and restart.

I'm not an authorized gold shield expert, but nothing in your HijackThis log jumps out as being suspicious to me.

You appear to have Sun Java Runtime Environment 1.5.0.12 installed, which is very outdated. 1.6.0.07 is the current version and can be downloaded from:

http://www.filehippo.com/download_java_runtime/

Download and save 1.6.0.07, go into Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall all older versions, then go into C:\PROGRAM FILES\JAVA and delete any leftover folders, then install version 1.6.0.07.

Before you restart again, go into the SCU startup list and uncheck:

SunJavaUpdateSched jusched.exe
