I did a reinstall of windows xp, but now at my "windows is starting up" page it takes forever for windows to load. Help.

A lot of things can influence this speed. If you have a lot of files on your desktop, move them somewhere else.

Try compactng your registry:

RegCompact.NET (This works well, but takes a few minutes. It appears to lock up the machine, but be patient and it will finish.)

Try defragging and definitely run a chkdsk on all your drives.

Be sure your drivers are updated and that you have the latest releases of your antivirus and firewall programs.

Try running bootvis. Set it to monitor your boot process once or more, and then optimize the process (You'll see this option in the menus).

I also would like to add there is a pink strip on the bottom right hand side of my screen when I'm on the "windows is starting up" screen. Will these steps clear up that problem too?
