Hi there,

I just got a computer off my brother cos he upgraded and was sick of his old one. I was excited cos I thought I would be able to ebay quickly. But I think it has some viruses that I don't seem to go away with the virus checker?

From what I can see they seem to be: trojan.small, downloader.Tiny.fk, dialer.Idialer, dialer.small...or something like this - there seems to be more or different ones all the time!!!argh.

Please help? Any advice would be great, even if you say throw the thing out!! :(

thanks!

* Click here to download HJTsetup.exe.
Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.

Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Download and run VundoFix: http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK.
When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES.
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
Turn your computer back on.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HijackThis log.

Run ActiveScan online virus scan:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm

Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button.
A new window will open...click the Check Now button.
Enter your Country.
Enter your State/Province.
Enter your e-mail address and click send.
Select either Home User or Company.
Click the big Scan Now button.
If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it.
It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan.
When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the ActiveScan report.

I have tried doing what you said. To start with the program wouldn't load and the connections with the internet were a problem. I kept on getting lots of warings from AVAST about certain viruses. I finally got the program to start scanning my computer, but it kept crashing when it got to a certain point. I have a screen capture just before the point where it crashes, but don't know how to attach it. When I say "crash" - what i mean is that explorer just quits, with no messages or anything.

The program is trying to scan ntldr but then crashes. At this point it has detected 11 spyware, 1 hacking tool and root kits, adn 3 dialers. Because it kept crashing, what I did was stop the scan before it crashed so I could get the txt file report. This is what that text file says:

 • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
 • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
 • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply.

Ok, I got to the point where avenger restarts. Whent he balck dialog box came up I didn't quite catch what it said, but It was something along the lines of not being able to find some files. It also said that avengr.txt did not exisit and asked if i wantd to create it, I said yes, and it created the file, but it had no text in it. I had a look in the backup.zip file it created, and there were no files in it.

I didn't do the Highjack This bit that you mentioned, cos the Avenger bit didn't work properly and I didn't want to wreck anything. Where to now?

I just had a look at the highjack this log. Both of the O2 lines are there as you said, but the O20 line is now missing?
