My PC suffered several freezes and crashes last week. Things are stable again but Spell Checker (F7) is grayed out in OUTLOOK EXPRESS which I use for e-mail and Web page building.

    How can I fix this?

    Win98se , IE 6.0, 512MB ram, P3 500Mhz

    Thanks for your help.

Check in Word that Spell Check in enabled.
Tools> Options> Spelling and Grammar tab> under spelling, check the box:
Check spelling as you type. Check the other boxes that you want and click OK.

Thanks Augie65. You pointed me in the right direction.

In my attempt to solve other PC problems I ran System File Checker. Among the
elements it said might be corrupted was MSI.DLL

So I replaced it. Big mistake.

I used SFC to restore the old MSI.DLL and everything is fine again.

Moral of this story: Don't mess around with system DLL's unless you know what
you're doing and understand the interdependencies.

Thanks again for your prompt reply to my plea for help, Augie65.
