Solved: Sony Viao...DVD drive will read...

    any disks I put into it but will not burn. I have tried everything I can think of (ie...remove drive then reboot...update drivers for drive-no change...tried different
    burning programs) - same result each time - drive doesnt find media.

    Could this be a Sony rootkit in action...stopping any reproduction of video's / music?
    Could the drive be failing...if so, is there some diagnotics(sp) software I could run on it?

    Are you still having this problem? If so, have you tried using another make of disk? Plus, what happens if you put a music cd in, does the drive read it?

    as it turns out eddie the drive write functions must have been bad...I borrowed another DVD-RW from a friend and it worked perfectly...going to buy another drive...thanks for your reply/time.
