My sound doesn't work because my computer doesn't recognize that there's a sound card there. I'm running Windows XP with a VIA vt1721 sound card. I've tried pretty much everything I can think of. I don't know what to do.

I think that the problem is that I don't have a multimedia audio controller, but I'm not sure. I just found out that this might be the problem.

Downloading random drivers will cause more problems. Make sure to uninstall any and all drivers before trying the driver I posted.

Is your sound card a separate PCI card or built into the motherboard?

And whats the exact model number of it? It should be printed on the card somewhere.

The driver I posted is for a VIA Envy 24 card; VT1721(HT-S).

    It's a VIA VT1721. I don't know if it's "(HT-S)" or not.

Yes, but the sound still doesn't work. Do you need a driver for a headphone jack. If you do, then I don't have one.

You don't need drivers for jacks.

What does it say in Device Manager? Does it list the sound card? And have you looked for the sticker or printed model number on the sound card? The sound card may use a VIA audio chip but is assembled by someone else.

In device manager, what would it say for the sound card? I haven't been able to look at the sound card yet, but I will.

It will be under the Sound, Video & Game Controllers section, what do you see under that section?

Ok, so it seems the driver is installed.

What do you see under Sound & Audio Controllers in the Control Panel? Is the Envy24 Family Audio Controller selected as the default playback device?
