    Hey all,

As of yesterday the sound on my PC started "stuttering." It's the same stuttering that happened before if i was listening to music and opening a huge pdf (for example) or something of that nature. Now it's doing it all the time. I even notice it sometimes on the Windows startup sound.

    Here are my computer specs:
    Dell Dimension DIM3000
    P4 2.8Ghz
    768 MB Ram
    SoundMax Audio Driver

It does it in bothe WMP and WinAmp

Try a System Restore, or uninstall any new apps you added.

The only app I added was a DirectX plugin or progrom for Internet Explorer. How do I uninstall that?

I'm curious about this. I have just began having this problem; I can play CD's with no problem, and also video files with no problem, but music files stutter and are unlistenable.

I have an old computer system with 128 RAM but haven't had a problem until yesterday.

    What is PIO mode?

Thank you for the reference, I still need some insight as to what causes this stuttering, if you please:

I have downloaded several different players, now I have Windows Media 9, Real basic, "coolmp3" 1.0 and winamp.
All formats so far: WMA, mp3 stutter every few seconds, but like I said, I can play a CD fine but nothing I download, works.

I have an old computer, it's an old Intel motherboard wih a 333 mhz processor and 128 RAM. My gut tells me that my processor is too small to handle audio files, but again, why is it that video files are fine too?

Anyway, thanks in advance for any thoughts/ideas/advice, I really appreciate it and know this is probably a pain for folks to answer.
