Can someone plz tell me the difference between the speaker channels when you want to buy speakers? Like 2 channel,2.1 surround,5.1 surround......
I understand that its to do with what sound card to a point, but Im not real bright on the specifics of sound cards,or audio electronics. Can I buy a 2.1 surround system and use it on integrated sound? I guess I have noticed that that is the difference between 2 channel and 2.1 surround, the 2.1 has a subwoofer,so does that need its own plug? Plz advize

2 channel is left and right, also known as stereo. 2.1 is left, right, and a sub woofer for bass. At best, this could simulate surround. 5.1 is front left, front right, rear left, rear right, center speaker, and sub woofer. This can produce true surround sound.

As for integrated sound, that would depend on which sound chip the motherboard has and what it supports.

Typically, a 2.1 system will have filters in it so that the bass is only going to the sub woofer, but will use the same plug as the normal stereo.
