First off, here is my SysInfo log:

Hi Guys,
I have been getting Blue Screen STOP errors lately. I have recorded a few of the error codes.

The first one is STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x8092BDA8, 0xAD5ECBB0, 0x00000000)
The second is STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x8092BDA8, 0xADC8AB50, 0x00000000)
The third is STOP: 0x0000000A (0x7500BA2F, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x804E3160)
The fourth is STOP: 0x00000024 (0x001902FE, 0xBA4DFAE4, 0XBA4DF7E0, 0XB9D04B85)

I have other instances of STOP errors that I did not record.

I just ran a full system scan with NIS and defragged my hard drive.

Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

Crash Time : 1/25/2013 10:33:55 AM
Caused By Driver : SYMEVENT.SYS
Relates to Norton.

Your latest minidump file.
Crash Time : 2/2/2013 10:34:23 AM
Caused By Driver : Ntfs.sys

Ntfs.sys - can relate to corrupted files - memory fault etc.
Check Device Manager
Start > Run > Type
devmgmt.msc
Click the + sign to expand all entries.
Check for any yellow exclamation marks.
If drivers need updating - always go to the manufacturers website.
------
Run a Mem Test.
http://www.memtest86.com/download.html

Download the ISO file from one of the links above to your desktop.
Then burn the ISO to a Cd.
Start the Pc using the Cd and run the memory test overnight or for at least 8 passes.

It is best to run a full scan on individual Ram sticks if you can.
Or run the test but if any errors are shown - then remove all sticks of Ram and test each Ram stick one at a time.
-----
You can also run the Mem test from a USB stick.
http://www.memtest.org/#downiso
Scroll down to Download (Pre-built & ISOs)
Download -Auto-installer for USB Key (Win 9x/2k/xp/7) *NEW!*

Download to your desktop - unzip it there.
Put the USB stick into your Pc USB slot.
Click on the Install icon on your desktop - it will then have a box appear asking you to name the USB drive letter.
Put the drive letter in the box and click on install.

But first check that you are using the correct drive letter - with the USB stick in the USB slot of your PC - right click My Computer > click on Open.
Your USB stick will be listed with the drive letter.
How to test Ram.

--------
Run System File Checker - you will need the Xp install Cd.

Thanks for the info and your help. Their seems to be no problems in Device Manager. I haven't been able to run the Memory test or the system file checker yet. As for checking each RAM stick seperately, Dell recommendsing memory installed in pairs. I have 2x256 MB sticks and 2x1 GB sticks. Can I run this test with only one stick installed?

I'm not sure when I'll be able to run these tests. My machine seems to be running OK, especially after I defragged my hard drive.

Installing Ram sticks in pairs is correct.
It is best to check each Ram stick on its own - that will eliminate a faulty stick.
But try checking in pairs and if a fault is reported - check each stick.
If all is running better - give it a day or two and if need be, run the MemTest.

He,
Sorry I have not replied in a while. I haven't had the chance to run the Memory test until now. I am still getting intermittent STOP errors. I tried to run the Memtest but my PC did not boot with the CD I created. I don;t know if I created the CD right. I right-clicked on the extracted .iso file and used "Send to" D: (my CD-RW drive. I put in a blank CD and under "File" chose "Write these files to CD". When I explore the CD, The Memtest86.iso file is on the cd. Do I have to do anything special to boot with this CD? Thanks for your help.

Hi, Ted,
The Bios needs to be set to boot [Start] from the Cd/DVD - it may already be set to do so.
How to boot from a CD.
http://techpaul.wordpress.com/2007/08/03/how-to-boot-from-a-cd/

In the Bios you use the arrow keys to move the Cd to the top of the list.
Then Save setting and Exit the Bios - pressing F10 will usually do this.
Make no other changes while in the Bios.

What is the make and model number of your Pc?

Hi blues_harp28,
Thanks for the info. Imgburn looks like a very handy program! I changed the BIOS setting (I think). Does there need to be a CD in the drive for the different boot options to show before Windows loads? My PC is a Dell Dimension 5100C. Is there another way to boot from a CD? Does F12 diagnostics let you do this?

Again, thanks for your help. I'm getting ready to do the memory test.

No, but starting with the Cd in the drive - you will be asked to press any key to start [boot] from the Cd.

Dell Dimension 5100C - access to the Bios should be F2 or Delete

My PC booted right to the memory test and started running right away. It did 3 iterations and 7 passes and no errors were reproted. What does the 3 iterations signify? Does it create any kind of results log?

I will run the file checker soon and report the results.

What does the 3 iterations signify?
Webster dictionary explains it better than I can.
'A procedure in which repetition of a sequence of operations yields results successively closer to a desired result'

Keep us updated.

I started to do the system file check and realized that my XP Pro installation cd is SP2 but I am running SP3 now. Does this matter? Do I need to get an SP3 installation cd?

I have another, probably unrelated question. When I go into msconfig, on the startup tab I have multiple instances of the same program i.e. realsched, Google Updater among others. How can I get rid of these multiple entries?

Thanks
Ted

You will need the SP3 install Cd to run system file checker but system file checker may not tell us much.
Post the latest 5 minidump files.

What was the result of the MemTest?

Start > Run > Type
msconfig

Click on the Start up tab.
Write down carefully what is listed and post the list here.
Or post a screenshot.

First of all, thanks for all the help you are giving me, I really appreciate it!

1. Here are the last 5 Minidump files: I noticed in the Blue Scren View that there are a lot of crashes caused by Symantec and ZoomText 10. I am visually impaired and use a screen magnifier/reader program called ZoomText. I am running version 9.0. I downloaded a trial version of ZoomText 10 a few months ago and it seems that my STOP errors started happening quite frequently after that. I also recently installed my new Norton Internet Security 2013 and it seems to be creating a lot of errors. Is my registry clogged with a lot of unused stuff? I have uninstalled ZoomText 10 so I don't know why it is causing errors.

2. The Mem Test ran overnight a couple of nights ago and did 7 passes, 3 iterations and found 0 errors so I 'm guessing my memory is OK.

3. I am attaching the screenshots of my Start up from msconfig. There are 3 screenshots. I noticed that Tea Timer is in here, I uninstalled Spybot quite a while ago.

4. One more thing Ishould mention, a couple of months ago I had a smell coming from my PC. It smelled like a fan burning up (I know what that smells like) and my power supply was very hot. The power supply fan is working but I don't know if the CPU fan is. I have been running the PC with the cover off to keep it cooler. I don't know if this is relevent.

I hope this info is helpful.
